FIRST Tech Challenge

Yancey Robotics 2023-2024

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC): For ages 14-18 years old.  FTC, also known as FIRST Tech Challenge, is a robotics competition for students in grades 7-12th grade. The robots are made of steel and need to fit within an 18-inch by 18-inch area. Teams receive the annual challenge in September and begin construction of robots from scratch and have a time limit of a few months to complete the robot for competition including programming (autonomous and driver-controlled actions), and building (arms, lifts, and other accessories).  During the competition, each round is 3 minutes long, beginning with a 30-second autonomous period where the robot runs a unique program the team has coded, afterward there is a two and a half minute driver controlled period, where two team members drive with the help of a coach giving directions to the drivers. The last 30 seconds of the battle is when special missions are completed for extra points.  The 2022-2023 challenge is Power Play.

Program Dats: Sept- Jan / Feb

Program Cost: $30/student

Welcome to Yancey County Robotics.  The following robotics programs will be offered this year.  Meetings will be held at Quilt-N-Code behind McDonalds.  Registration costs are $30 per child per program and include a T-shirt. Additional costs could include transportation and food for competitions, hotel rooms, and other unforeseen costs. We will do fundraising to help the team if necessary and we do everything we can to make Legos affordable for everyone!  We are a non-profit and donations and sponsorship are greatly appreciated.

Important:   We have never intended that this be a drop off program.  Please stay as often as you can and play with your children.  We understand that there are times when this is not possible and we would never stop a child from participating because of that, but we don’t get paid for any of these programs and can always use all the help we can get!
